University of Texas at Austin opens a full- time postdoctoral position in the Dr. Dawit Kidane Laboratory with the College of Pharmacy, Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Research in the laboratory focuses on DNA damage response and genomic instability in cancer. Their specific aim is to understand the mechanisms how inherited genetic variants of replicative and nonreplicative DNA polymerase lead to an increased susceptibility to cancer. The research involves molecular genetics; cell biology, biochemistry and characterizing genetically modified mouse models. Candidates who have received a PhD within the last 3 years, and who have a solid background in cancer cell biology and biochemistry/genetics/molecular biology and are highly selfmotivated in research are encouraged to apply. The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing open bioinformatics positions for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f) and a PhD student (m/f) (job code 11/2014). The Dieterich Lab is unifying research and service tasks with an emphasis on questions in posttranscriptional gene regulation and ageing. University of Florida, Gainesville has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research in neuroscience beginning September 1, 2014. The specific project focuses on examination of midbrain dopaminergic neurons in health and disease state using electrophysiological methodologies such as single neuron recording and slice patch electrophysiology. Candidates must have a PhD in Neuroscience. Only candidates who have first-author publication (s) in peer- reviewed journals from their predoctoral studies and who are within 12 months of receiving their PhD will be considered. Experience with neuronal recording using patch clamp electrophysiology, light/fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry are required. Yale University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with an expertise in single molecule imaging and tracking, including TIRF microscopy. Their lab is working to elucidate the mechanism of membrane fusion by SNARE proteins and its regulation for neurotransmitter release in synaptic transmission. They take an interdisciplinary approach which includes cell-free biochemistry, single molecule biophysics, high- resolution optical imaging of single events/single molecules in cell and cell- free formats. Candidate(s) must hold (or soon hope to hold) a PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering and a have a record of first author publication(s) using single molecule imaging techniques. University of Miami opens a postdoctoral associate position. The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) is an international center whose mission is to bring together leading scientists worldwide to develop and rapidly apply promising research to treat and cure diabetes. The section of the DRI in which this position appointee will work is the Cell Transplant Center (CTC), which consists of three sections: a) Clinical Research; b) Pre- Clinical Research; and c) Basic Research. All the research programs ongoing in the CTC involve diabetes research and cell transplantation. Participation in cell transplant studies in larger animal, pre-clinical models, with the goals of identifying protocols that lead to enhanced islet survival and/or transplant tolerance and can be translated to the clinical setting. East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is seeking qualified candidates for a full- time assistant Professor (Research Track) position in synthetic organic chemistry. The position is funded as part of an NIH supported program focused on the synthesis of carbohydrate oligosaccharides for biomedical applications. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic and multidisciplinary group of chemists, immunologists, pharmacologists and physiologists on the development of next generation biopharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will have experience in carbohydrate synthesis and purification techniques, as well as interpretation of one and two dimensional NMR spectra. Ability to work at milligram and multi-gram scale is required. The successful applicant must also be able to direct postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and/or technicians in a multidisciplinary research environment.
