Burke Medical Research Institute open two post- doctoral fellow positions. Fellows will join their multi-disciplinary team dedicated to uncover the signaling mechanisms of axon growth and regeneration. The major focus of their lab is on developing and in vivo testing of strategies to promote axon regeneration and functional recovery in mouse models of spinal cord (CST) injury and glaucoma. Lund University is seeking a highly motivated and talented person for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes with the long- term goal of finding new anti- diabetic treatments. The successful applicant will have a key role in a project that is in the front line of metabolic research. The project is truly translational and will utilise comprehensive molecular and clinical data from an ongoing patient study to identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of defective insulin secretion in diabetes. The candidate will make an in-depth experimental characterisation of disease pathways and central disease genes that have been identified from the patient samples. The project also involves the development of a method for the isolation and profiling of circulating exosomes from human pancreatic islets. The candidate will use cell- physiological techniques, molecular biology, transfection and expression systems, subcellular fractionation, imaging and in vivo animal investigations. The project builds on their strategy to identify novel disease genes for complex diseases as described in Mahdi T et al., Cell Metabolism 2012, and Rosengren AH et al., Science 2010.
