Postdoctoral research opportunities are available in the area of biomedical optics at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the Wellman Center for Photomedicine. Candidates with strong backgrounds in Engineering, Optics, Physics and other relevant disciplines are sought to join leading efforts in the development and application of new optical technologies such as nextgeneration Laser Speckle Rheology, Optical Coherence Tomography, miniature endoscopic imaging probes and multimodality imaging. Application areas include the clinical translation of minimally invasive optical tools for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and blood disorders, as well as basic research in tissue micro-mechanics. The successful candidate will possess the ability to coordinate research activities in a timely manner to design and develop optical systems, perform, troubleshoot, analyze and publish studies. J. Craig Venter Institute opens a post-doctoral position to work on a host- pathogen RNA- seq project and other Human Microbiome projects. Responsibilities will include development and implementation of algorithms and statistical tools for analysis and interpretation of gene expression and - omics datasets. You will apply these methods to data generated from next- generation sequencing platforms. You are expected to be knowledgeable in taxonomic and functional analysis of sequence data, biodiversity estimation, sequence mapping and assembly, and machine learning approaches. University of California, Irvine opens a psychiatric genetics postdoctoral fellowship position. Candidates must hold a PhD, and/ or MD degree with experience preferably in the fields of Psychiatry, Neuroscience, Genetics, Psychology, or related field. Desirable background in postmortem brain research, statistical analysis, molecular biology techniques, mitochondrial function, suicide research, and clinical translational studies. Biodesign Institute opens a postdoctoral position to develop methodologies and study evolutionary questions related to mutation and short-read sequencing. Successful applicants will join a rapidly growing and well- funded lab involved on a variety of active research projects and collaborations. Current projects include (1) the analysis of cilliate mutation accumulation lines, (2) the development of software for de- novo mutation detection from traditional and single-cell sequencing datasets, (3) the analysis of non-pathogenic somatic mutation patterns in mammals and plants, (4) the study of indel patterns across the tree of life, (5) characterizing mutations and fitness- landscapes of metabolically engineered microbes, (6) population genetics of malaria parasites, (7) the construction of phylogenies from short-read, whole genome datasets, and (8) simulation techniques for molecular evolution research.
