佘山地磁台百年磁暴(二)--极大磁暴分析

摘要: 本文是佘山地磁台百年磁暴的第二部分,对其极大磁暴(主相ΔH≥400 nT)进行分析.通过与其他三组由不同地磁活动指数定义的极大磁暴对比,表明佘山台用主相幅度差对极大磁暴的定义与之基本相符.同时结合几个典型磁暴,对磁暴与太阳风、行星际磁场和电离层之间的关系进行了讨论.

Studies on super storms of So-Sé hundred-year data

Abstract: This is a second paper dealing with studies on super geomagnetic storms of So-Sé hundred-year data. Compared with three groups of super storms defined by different geomagnetic activity indexes, it shows that the super storms defined by the amplitude of the main phase of storm in So-Sé observatory is consistent with them. And the relationships between super storms and solar wind, interplanetary field and ionosphere are discussed with several typical storms..

1 引言

佘山地磁台于1877年创建, 原址设在徐家汇(ZKW), 1908年8月起移迁至陆家滨(LKP), 1933年再迁至佘山(So-Sé), 迄今仍继续在该址进行常规观测.

利用1877年迄今积累的地磁场三要素的磁照图, 特别是水平强度分量H干扰变化为最大, 先后选量了各类磁暴, 其中1877~1907年60个磁暴取自徐家汇记录.由于标度值与基线值不甚确切, 仅选量最大较差, 均在200nT以上.除了这60个大磁暴以外, 从1908年至2007年(缺1945~1946两年记录), 对每个磁暴, 量图并记录较详, 因此形成迄今百年磁暴记录[1, 2].

2 极大磁暴之选定

早在1997年Bell等人[3]利用4个地磁活动指数(Kp, ap, Dst和AE)综合选定极大磁暴.一般选定的指标为Dst≤-100nT或Kp≥60, 这相当于ap≥80或AE≥600nT; 其中Kpap起自1932年, Dst和AE起自1957年.为此Bell等人取用1932~1995年所有磁暴记录, 限于最大2%数量并适当考虑生存时限, 最后得表 1图 1的结果.显示共有13个极大磁暴, 主要发生于太阳黑子周最大下坡和春秋季节.与此同时, Loewe和Prölss[4]只采用Dst最小指数, 将1957~1993年1085个磁暴, 分为弱(482个)、中(346)、强(206)、大强(45)和极大(6).其标准为极大 < -350nT, 大强为-200~-350nT, 强为-100~-200 nT, 中为-50~-100nT, 弱为-30~-50nT.与此同时, Loewe和Prölss还发现最大apAE指数往往先于Dst最小指数约1~2h.

由于佘山百年磁暴期间, 早期缺少可用的地磁活动指数, 因此使用磁暴主相H分量的幅度, 从1908~2007年, 共选定3247个, 其中小于200nT共有2586个, 大于200nT共344个, 无主相幅度317个.最后选定主相ΔH为250~300nT共84个, ΔH为300~350nT共43个, ΔH为350~400nT共19个, 极大磁暴为≥400nT共31个, 如表 2左侧所示.近年来, Ebihara等人(2005)[5]选定1957~2004年的极大磁暴极小Dst < -300nT共22个. Love (2007)[6]和Cliver等人(2009)[7]选定百年1905~2004年间极大磁暴共26个, 如表 2中列所示.二者均以极小Dst作为标准.

3 关于佘山百年极大磁暴

将佘山31次极大磁暴与其他三组比较, 可以发现大多数是符合的.差别主要归咎于选定指标和时间年份有所不同.历经多次国际学术讨论会, 一致商定磁暴的形成与变化, 受制于太阳风等离子体、行星际磁场与地磁场和高层大气的相互作用, 其中各自又随时空而有差异.因此, 磁暴的根本来源在于下列4种机制[8].其一为行星际日冕物质抛射(ICMES), 其二为低速太阳风流与高速太阳风流形成的共转活动区(CIRS), 其三为高强度长期连续极光活动(HILDCAA), 其四称为Russell-McPherron季节效应.这四种机制并不相互排斥, 却是互相独立地进行相互作用, 其中前二种尤为重要, 后二者可使前二者更为有效.

下面列举佘山百年极大磁暴几个典型例子: (1)发生于2003年10~11月万圣节大磁暴[9, 10], 主要为10月29~30日Dst=-363nT, 10月30~31日Dst=-401nT (主相ΔH=432), 二者均自太阳活动区AR486, 和11月20日Dst=-472nT (主相ΔH=532), 源自AR501, 实为回归的AR484.这3个磁暴, 伴随有3个日冕物质抛射CME, 南向行星际磁场IMF和2个X级大耀斑. (2)太阳质子事件, 不仅在2003年由快和宽的CME强激波产生, 早在1959年7月15~17日和1960年11月12~15日先后也出现过, 形成当时两次日地重大事件, 其详可见文献[11]. (3)历史上导致加拿大魁北克停电9h之久的大磁暴, 出现于1989年3月13日, 是由于日面出现大耀斑导致大磁暴与瞬感电流(GICs)的产生, 与此相似, 先后还有1982年7月13~14日和1921年5月13~15日磁暴[12]. (4)1991年11月8~10日产生的大磁暴Dst=-354nT (ΔH=418), 其特点在于日面暗条消失, 这与著名1982年7月14日Dst=-310nT和2000年7月15日Dst=-317nT不同[7]. (5)关于大磁暴的电离层效应, 先后文章较多.涉及2003年万圣节大磁暴, 有丁锋等人[13]及Perevalova等人[14]利用GPSTEC分析LS TIDs, 赵必强等人[15]利用地面和卫星观测记录系统地研究各种电离层效应, 以及Mannucci等人[16]利用复合时间方法进行分析. Balan等人[17]对2004年11月7~11日的磁暴分析, 在赤道电离层生存有F3层; 同时Manninen等人[18]分析在此磁暴的恢复相出现有磁层的扰动.在2004年11月8~10日期间, Sahai等人[19, 20]先后分析东亚区域(越南和日本)和拉丁美洲地区(巴西和阿根廷)由GPS和数字测高仪观测所得F层的情况. (6)关于太阳耀斑效应(SFE), Villante和Regi[21]利用2003年10月28日全球53测站进行了分析讨论. (7)关于磁暴3D重建, Bisi等人[22]和Jackson等人[23]先后各对2004年11月8~10日磁暴和2003年5月27~28日进行模拟计算. (8)本文表 2所列佘山台的极大磁暴, 均以主相最大ΔH为标志, 没有表明是一步还是多步发展的磁暴.根据Kamide等人[24]的分析, 认为二步发展的磁暴可占总磁暴数的半数以上; 后经Zhang等人[25]对1996~2006年间90个大磁暴的分析, 暂取Dst大于14. 5nT为一步下降, 则一步下降磁暴仅为34%(31个), 二步下降为49%(44个), 三步及多步下降为17%(15个).进一步分析其原因, 90个磁暴共有165个大步下降.源于行星际日冕物质爆发(ICME)的占45%, 源于磁层磁鞘(SH)的为30%, 源于PICME-SH的为7%, 源于共转相互作用区(CIR)的为11%, 其余的还占7%.

4 结语

佘山百年极大磁暴的测定, 涉及太阳活动的几个"旗手"和近地空间各层次若干"勇士"扰动的情况, 其重要性不难看出.除上述的简要分析, 这里还可指出其他二点, 有待进一步思考研究.其一根据Liemohn和Jazowski[26]分析太阳活动23周(1996~2005年)90个磁暴, 源于CIR占11个, 源于ICME占79个之多, 后者又可分为磁鞘、磁云、喷射和复杂因素各占22、23、12和12个.但这统计, 仅限于中小磁暴 < 100nT.其二根据Gopalswamy等人的统计[27], 17%行星际激波之后未再伴有其他扰动源, 但随太阳活动上升、最大和下降阶段, 此现象又各增加为15%、33%和52%.这可能与日面冕洞的"阻挡"等其他活动有关, 特别在太阳活动下降段中低纬度增多了冕洞; 也可能由于有些激波垂直于日地连线传播, 不能到达地球所致.
